My Heart Breaks For You
It was just something that wouldn't go out of my thoughts. Although I've been trying not to be affected, I suppose I was. One of my favorite Korean actors—a sincere, gifted actor—died last month. I have always respected his work and films, thus his loss has had a profound effect on me. It serves as a reminder of the enormous impact that artists may have in our lives though we may never have had the pleasure of meeting them in person.
He’s one of the reasons why I love to watch Korean dramas, but now, my heart breaks for him. If only the media had ceased circling him while he was working with his matter. If only one of them listened to him or given him room to breathe, he would not have chosen this path. There's no question that his mental health has suffered as a result of the constant spotlight and interference in his personal life. Seeing the detrimental effects that media manipulation may have on a person's career and general well-being is depressing.
Taking your own life is not normal, so let's not consider that this is okay to do. It’s not, and it’s a perpetual sin. I detest the individuals who made fun of him, degraded him, and broke his spirit without any proof beforehand. There will be no closure for his family, who are forever torn by this incident. No amount of words or apologies can alleviate the pain.
Depression is real. Mental health is evident.
I've been there once, and when your emotions and head are at odds with one another, it's incredibly difficult to fight it off. It's crucial to understand that mental health struggles are not a choice and should never be belittled or dismissed.
To Korean entertainment, your dramas are spectacular; my hat's off to that, but I realized your entertainment culture is taxing and dangerous.
I hope your government will develop a healthier and more sustainable environment for Korean celebrities by enacting laws protecting their privacy, such as more stringent prohibitions on paparazzi and tabloid reporting. They are also individuals who are public property but have solid rights. Society needs to recognize the toll of constant invasion of privacy can have on individuals in the entertainment industry.
To you, LSK, I will forever remember you and cherish your films and dramas. Kamsamhanida Oppa! Your talent and dedication have brought so much joy to countless fans around the world. Thank you for sharing your incredible performances with us. Our heart mourns for you.
